WHY DO I NEED A REGULAR CLEANING?
Dental plague is a thin layer of bacteria that forms on our teeth and that can cause tooth decay and gun disease. Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing regularly can remove most of the plaque, but even a good daily cleansing routine cannot prevent plaque from building up in hard to reach places. Our time, this soft plaque will form into a hard and porous layer of minerals (tartar), leading to tooth decay, gingivitis and bad breath. That’s why a regular, professional cleaning by a dentist is recommended at least twice a year.
WHAT DOES A DENTAL CLEANING CONSIST OF?
During the cleaning the dentist or oral hygienist will remove the hard plaque with a number of specialize tools. They treatment is quick and easy and should not cause any serious discomfort. You will notice the effect of a good cleaning right away: some discoloration on your teeth will have disappeared, especially along the edge of the gums, leaving your teeth white and smooth.
WHAT HAPPENED IF I DON’T GET A REGULAR CLEANING?
Chances are you will develop a host of problems, ranging from discoloration of the teeth to inflammation of the gum tissue, tooth decay and bad breath. This is why your dentist recommends a cleaning at least twice a year.
IS DENTAL CLEANING PAINFUL?
Only in very rare circumstances is a cleaning painful. If you experience anything more than a slight discomfort, you should tell your dentist. The cleaning procedure is very gentle and superficial and most patients do not mind it.
I BRUSH AND FLOSS VRY THOROUGHLY. DO I STILL NEED A CLEANING?
A regular cleaning is always recommended, no matter how well or how often you brush or floss your teeth. Tartar can build up in hard to reach places that only a dentist with his specialized tools can reach.
